Pets and eco-friendly are a match made in green heaven.
We’re pet friendly here at Bambeco – many of our staff have pets, we love discovering new, green pet products and we welcome our four-legged friends for office visits. Over 60 percent of all American households own pets. It’s safe to say that we have a love affair with the furry critters.Whether we have a pampered pet, or a rough-and-tumble, go-anywhere pal, our pets are like our family and we want the best for them. A few easy steps can reduce your pet’s carbon paw print, and keep them healthier. It’s a win-win!
- Adopt from a shelter
When it’s time to get a new pet, skip the pet shop and head to a shelter instead. Go to the Humane Society or the ASPCA for information on shelters in your area, or check out Petfinder. Adopting is a smart, green choice for getting a new pet.
- Spay or neuter
Taking that little extra step will actually prolong Fluffy’s life and keep Fido healthier. Plus it helps prevent unwanted puppies and kittens from heading to shelters.
- Scoop the poop
Use a biodegradable bag and clean up after Fido, and skip the clumping kitty litter in Fluffy’s box in favor of an eco-friendly replacement. While pet poo doesn’t belong in your regular compost, there are all sorts of eco-friendly ways to dispose of the unwanted stuff. Just do a search for composting pet waste.
- Dump the junk… food that is
Just like us, Fido and Fluffy will benefit from a healthy, organic diet that ditches the over-processed stuff that’s full of unpronounceable chemical additives. Healthy treats are a great way to reward your friend for good behavior!
- Sustainable toys
No, we don’t mean toys that will outlast Fido’s amazing jaws of death… wait, maybe we do mean that! Opting for organic pet toys or those made from sustainable or recycled materials is another great way to reduce your pet’s carbon paw prints. Besides, it’s fun to watch them play with a new toy!
- Go chemical free
Lather up your furry friend with all-natural pet care products and clean up those hairballs with something that’s gentle on the environment (and your pet). Your furry friend will thank you for not overwhelming their delicate senses.
- Grow some green
Want Fido or Fluffy to love you forever and ever? (As if they don’t already, right?) Plant some organic grass, or catnip for them to nosh on.
- Give them a place to rest
Your pet’s bed doesn’t have to be made of chemical-laden foam. There are all sorts of options for cool looking, and green, pet beds. Make sure Fido sleeps safe, cozy and green.
- Get out and about
Take your pet with you when you can – it’s good for both of you! When you take Fido along for the ride, make sure you’ve got his leash, and some biodegradable bags to clean up any messes. Toss in a portable doggy bowl in case he gets hungry or thirsty on the road and you’re good to go.
We don’t need to tell you this part! The best, most eco-friendly thing you can do for your pet is to love them. Give them lots of attention, take them for walks, pet them, feed them good food, all the things you’re already doing. In return, you’ll get years of unconditional love right back at ya. And that just can’t be beat.
