summer refresher…
a bright new look

Hot, sultry days, bright blue skies, longer days and warm nights. Ah, it’s summer, time to get ready for life outside. In all that outdoor décor, it’s easy to overlook your interiors. Summer is the perfect time for a little summer refresher inside. Ditch those darks and embrace the warmth and light of the sun.

  • Flowers are at their peak right now, so take advantage of your garden’s abundance and fill your home with cut flowers arranged in pretty vases. Don’t have a garden? Try your local farmer’s market for great deals on seasonal, and local blooms.
  • Lighten up on your pillows. Swap out dark colors for some lighter and brighter throw pillows. Pack away the heavy wool throws in favor of light cotton blankets in vivid colors.
  • Want to keep your same color palette? Use darker, more muted colors in the colder months, then switch to bright or pastel versions of the same colors for summer.
  • Take it to the bedroom as well, swap out the heavy blankets and dark colors for light, crisp cotton sheets in lighter colors. Top it all with a lightweight blanket for a fresh summer feel.
  • Consider switching to big, thirty beach towels in summery shades instead of your regular bath towels. You’ll love the size and the colors will make you feel like you’ve had a day at the beach.
  • Rearrange your wall art and accessories. You don’t have to replace everything, but a little creative moving around will give your space a fresh feel.
  • Let some sunshine in! Yes, we know, if you’re trying to keep the place cool, you need to keep your blinds drawn. But if you’ve got shaded windows, you can open up and enjoy the light.
  • While you’re at it, blur the line between  your indoor space and your outdoor space. Bring some of your outdoor accessories in, and vice versa to create the sense of one big space.
  • Consider swapping out your dark area rugs for something a little breezier. Go for something fun with an indoor/outdoor rug in bright colors, or channel classic beach house with a natural fiber rug.
  • Brighten up your table with linens in summery shades. Try cool linen tablecloths and runners for a relaxed elegance.
  • Change out your tableware as well. You don’t have to replace all your dishes, just add a few key serving pieces in fun colors. A lime serving tray is perfect for indoors or out.
  • If you haven’t already, add some indoor plants. Nothing says summer like lush greenery. Shy on space? Try hanging a terrarium in a bright corner.
  • And the best tip to enjoying summer? Entertain. A lot. Invite your best friends, the happiest people you know, and celebrate for no reason at all.
